Op een ander 2
In 'Op een ander', Karine Claassen visits ordinary people in unusual and hard-to-access communities. These worlds may seem far from our own, but are often closer to us than we might imagine. Layer by layer, Karine explores what drives these individuals, getting to the heart of eclectic characters and their unique way of life.
Op een ander 2
In this second series of four episodes, Karine visits De Gooikenshoeve in East Flanders. This care farm serves as a sanctuary for young people aged 17 to 25 who are struggling mentally or socially. In the quiet of nature, they find connection and structure, but this vital refuge survives solely on donations and its future is currently hanging by a thread.
Karine also gains access to the Musica Mundi School in Waterloo, an international boarding school for exceptionally gifted young musicians. Founded by couple Hagit and Leonid, the school pushes students from all corners of the globe toward musical perfection. Karine follows them through nerve-wracking auditions, discovering the immense pressure hidden behind the school’s elite reputation.
The journey continues into the Belgian Ballroom scene, a vibrant subculture rooted in the 1960s New York queer community. It is a world of performance, "chosen families," and extravagant alter egos. Karine explores how this safe haven for self-expression has taken root in Belgium, remaining a tight-knit community that is often closed to outsiders.
Finally, Karine steps into the colorful world of Flemish wrestling (Catch). She follows "Rob Raw" during his final match, investigating the thin line between the wrestlers' daily lives and their flamboyant stage personas. In a mix of sport and pure spectacle, she discovers why these athletes choose to find their place—and their voice—inside the ring.
