Mysteriejagers: De Rechtvaardige Rechters
Mysteriejagers ('mystery hunters') is a four-part documentary series in which Danira Boukhriss Terkessidis, Jacotte Brokken, Arnout Hauben, and Thomas Vanderveken dive into one of the most intriguing art mysteries ever: the 1934 theft of two panels from the Ghent Altarpiece. What began as a local shock in Ghent quickly grew into an international enigma that has captivated detectives, historians, and art lovers for more than ninety years. To this day, the panel De Rechtvaardige Rechters remains missing, and the truth behind its disappearance is still shrouded in mystery.
The four “mystery hunters” each approach the case from their own angle. Thomas brings his expertise in art, Jacotte examines the evidence through a scientific lens, Arnout explores the historical context, and Danira follows the trail with the keen eye of a true crime enthusiast. Together they reconstruct, step by step, what happened back then and meet a colourful cast of witnesses, experts, and passionate amateur sleuths. They comb through archives, visit churches, laboratories, and discreet service clubs, uncovering new clues in one of the world’s most famous art mysteries.
