'Als je eens wist' and 'Het Scheldepeloton' nominated for best TV documentary

This year’s Ensor Academy has announced its nominees including two of our own beloved TV programmes. For the category “Best TV documentary” both “Als je eens wist” (season 2) and “Het Scheldepeloton” have been able to impress a board of 1.400 members who will also choose the final winner.

This is the first nomination for “Als je eens wist”. "Als je eens wist" (translation: If you only knew) continues after the gripping and controversial first season about child abuse, with an important second season. This time, taking a closer look at domestic partner violence. Testimonies of victims, perpetrators and experts attest to the complexity and taboos surrounding this sensitive subject. The Ensor nomination confirms the need to create more awareness and space for these stories to be shared in a way that protects the integrity of the matter and serves all victims with a deserved amount of respect.

Het Scheldepeloton, recent winner of “de HA van Humo” for best TV programme, is now nominated for a second time. This series follows five young cyclists from Ghent who are fighting for the same dream: to become successful professional cyclists. One by one they make their dream come true, but the road to fame is paved with many obstacles. The programme has been praised for its authentic storytelling and the way it’s honoring both Dimitri De Fauw en Wouter Weylandt; who have passed away whilst doing what they were most passionate about. The Ensor Academy has thus chosen to highlight this sobering yet gripping story of friendship, hope and genuine dedication.
